A top Cambridge restaurant is transforming its Top Floor Cocktail Lounge into the city’s first Piano Bar. De Luca Cucina & Bar on Regent Street in Cambridge city centre is introducing the Piano Bar concept as part of a new music programme at the independent modern Italian restaurant.
International piano entertainer Robin Phillips (known as Robin P-iano) relocated from London to Cambridge in 2012 and has teamed up with the restaurant to bring his piano bar shows to the city on a permanent basis.
At De Luca’s new Piano Bar, guests can sit around the piano and request (and even sing-a-long to) their favourite songs or simply relax and soak up the atmosphere whilst enjoying one of De Luca’s signature cocktails.
Piano Bars originated in the USA and are popular in London as well as European countries such as Norway and Holland, offering a truly unique entertainment experience. They feature singer / pianists with huge repertoires of pop music from the 1950s to the latest chart toppers. Along with American performers, British piano entertainers are considered some of the best in the world and are often flown to mainland Europe to perform. Cambridge-based Robin P-iano has a repertoire of well over 1,000 songs and has performed in venues such as The Savoy’s famous American Bar and in piano bars in countries including Holland, Switzerland, Estonia and Norway.
Cambridge’s piano and music retailer since 1856, Miller’s Music, is sponsoring the Piano Bar and providing the digital baby grand piano which will have a permanent home in the restaurant’s cocktail bar.
The Piano lounge will take place every Friday evening at 8pm from 17th October and Thursdays will be introduced in December, with a plan to continue to expand the music programme into 2015.
De Luca is also introducing jazz duo performances to its Skylight Restaurant as part of the new music programme from 19th October. Live jazz performances will take place each Sunday from 6 to 9pm and feature either piano or guitar with upright bass, creating a relaxing atmosphere to compliment the restaurant’s extensive modern Italian menu.
